Plano, Texas is a vibrant, bustling community located in Collin County. Part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Plano has seen a rapid population growth over the past two decades. Over 250,000 people now call Plano home. The city enjoys a quite diverse economy and job opportunities are numerous. Those considering a move to Plano will be happy to learn that apartment units abound, ranging from smaller studio and efficiency floor plans to larger 3-bedroom, 2-bath homes suitable for families.
Plano was once nothing more than a few country homes and small farms. The rich blackland soil yielded excellent crops which were transported south to Dallas for sale in local markets. Much of the agricultural industry has since left the region and today Plano is a modern, sophisticated community with an excellent transportation system, wonderful city parks, fine restaurants and a multitude of shopping centers.
This region of north-central Texas experiences warm, rather dry summers and cool, moist and humid winters. The temperate winter climate means residents can enjoy the outdoors even in December and January. Plano residents are known for their love of recreation, especially bicycling, jogging, organized sporting events, boating and water skiing. Nearby reservoirs offer excellent water skiing and pleasure boating. Fishing is another favorite pastime of many Plano residents, with anglers heading out to the nearby lakes to catch bass and perch.
Students looking to rent a smaller apartment will find many such units in the Plano-McKinney area. The nearby community colleges draw high school graduates from all over the region, with many of them setting up residence in Plano, Allen or McKinney. Studio and efficiency apartments can usually be rented on a 6-month or 1-year lease, but some communities offer month-to-month contracts.
Family sections are included in almost all of the larger complexes in the city. Most have several play areas, covered parking, pool facilities and recreation programs. All of the modern apartments in Plano have air conditioning, cable outlets and either washer/dryer in the unit or hookups. Plano is known for its well-manicured lawns. Groundskeepers at the apartment complexes take advantage of the mild climate and turn the outdoor environment into a beautiful, eye-catching palette of color.
Plano has direct freeway connection to downtown Dallas and the other northeastern suburbs. Traffic can be heavy during the morning and afternoon commute, but a very large percentage of the population works in the nearby area. This helps relieve freeway congestion and offers residents much shorter driving distances to and from their place of employment. Downtown Plano has become an industrial center with a huge amount of office space available. The street pattern is well-designed and most any part of the community can be reached by car in less than 10 minutes.
Newer apartment complexes in the Plano area are usually 2- or 3-level, with the 1-bedroom, 1-bath units averaging about 650 square ft. of floor space. Many of the 3-bedroom units have a sizable master bedroom and over 850 square ft. of living area. Many are located near a major arterial, yet are designed for peace and quiet. Small ponds, picnic areas and shady trees dominate the landscape of many apartment communities in Plano.
The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is full of exciting attractions and entertainment. Professional sports teams include the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL, the Texas Rangers of the baseball American League, Dallas Mavericks of the NBA and the Dallas Stars NHL hockey team. Dallas is known for its exceptional nightclubs, many of them located in Plano and nearby Richardson. The famous South Fork ranch is located at the far eastern edge of Plano and draws visitors year round. The city has public golf courses and very fine private country clubs. Golf is one of the most popular sports for Plano residents, with a number of independent firms offering instruction for beginners.
If you are relocating to or within the Dallas area and want to live in a residentially-oriented neighborhood surrounded by convenient shopping, dining and recreational venues, consider renting an apartment in Plano. You will find this community has a wonderful family atmosphere, plenty of wide open space and affordable rental prices.
